Tatiana Latorre
My work in aquatic ecology has focused on aquatic biodiversity, bioindication, and, more recently, cross-ecosystem aquatic subsidies. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology in Colombia, my country of origin, where I studied the diversity of aquatic entomofauna and their role as bioindicators in high-elevation ecosystems. During my master’s studies in Mexico, I examined the alpha, beta, and gamma diversity components of páramo ecosystems in Colombia, contributing to a broader understanding of biodiversity patterns in these unique high-mountain landscapes. Currently, as a Ph.D. student in the United States, my research focuses on understanding the connectivity between aquatic and terrestrial systems. In particular, I investigate the role of aquatic insect emergence as a key pathway of energy and nutrient transfer in mountain streams of the Pacific Northwest.
