Sydney Bernard
Sydney Bernard is a Master of Environmental Science candidate at Troy University with a BA in Sustainability from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Prior to beginning her graduate degree, Sydney leveraged her four years of environmental education experience and became an elementary school teacher. This inspired her to continue merging her passions for conservation and education.
While at Troy University, Sydney is working on thesis research titled "Evaluating Freshwater Mussel and Corbicula fluminea Feeding Ecology in the Pea River Using Stable Isotopes." In addition to her thesis research, she is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Elba Hydroelectric Dam Removal Project. Sydney leads environmental education and outreach for the project. She coordinates outreach events, creates environmental science curriculum, and enjoys forming relationships with community members and local teachers through the Deep South Student LEAP (Leadership and Environmental Action Program).
